On the 15th August, 8pm, Southport Writers Circle is proud to present the awards evening for their founder’s competition, judged by award-winning author Debbie McGowan. The Joan Nicholson competition invites SWC writers the chance to display their flair and expertise for language and submit their work for the chance to win the coveted trophy.
Debbie McGowan is known for the Lambda Literary Award winning novel When Skies Have Fallen and her debut novel Champagne. The latter is based on a stage show which was co-written and co-produced alongside her husband; it tells a beautifully written coming-of-age story about Sammy who is searching for his estranged and abusive father. McGowan’s talents have not gone unnoticed with nominations in both the Rainbow Awards and the Bisexual Book Awards and has since gone on to launch her own independent publishing house, Beaten Track Publishing which enables her to lend her skills to up and coming authors.
All are welcome to come to the meeting at Parenting 2000 on Mornington Road, to listen to the winning stories and to meet with the judge. For further information on the competition and future competitions, including the Annual Open Short Story 2019, judged by Dr. Anna Maddison, please visit the SWC site at www.swconline.co.uk
