The world’s oldest man who has called Southport his home for a number of years has sadly passed away.

The family of John Tinniswood confirmed the 112 year old passed away this week at his Southport care home.

John rose to international fame as he officially became the world’s oldest man earlier this year, previously holding the title of the UK’s oldest man.

He was born in Liverpool the year the Titanic sank, he’s survived two world wars and was already 50 when the Beatles had their first hit.

A lifelong Liverpool fan, John worked as an accountant until his retirement in 1972.

John married his wife, Blodwen, in 1942, and welcomed their only child, Susan, in 1943, before spending 44 happy years together until Blodwen died in 1986.

Rest in peace John.
