World Friendship Day, cakes and tea with the Kew travellers

21st July 2019

Whilst Kew residents remain furious about travellers who have taken over Meols Cop playing field Labour’s councillors seem to stay largely silent.  Police and Sefton’s Bootle – based council seem unable (or unwilling) to sort out the mess.

One letter OTS News received said: “I can’t believe Bootle Council wants us, residents, to celebrate World Friendship Day ‘by enjoying a picnic in a park’

Alternatively, Sefton Council is telling people to have a picnic in their local park despite it being taken over by the travellers. Labour’s reaction seems to be – play nice and picnic together.

Labour Councillor Paulette Lapin – Cabinet Member – Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services – is happy to promote integration. She’s also the Sponsor of the Year of Friendship. Cllr Lappin said: “I think it’s important for us to celebrate our friendships in the same we celebrate our significant other each year on Valentine’s Day.”

Lappin added: “World Friendship Day is a chance for Sefton residents to pack a picnic and head outdoors with their friends and family and also opens up an opportunity for people to get in touch with people who may be socially isolated and invite them along for a day out.”

Residents are asking what Kew’s Labour councillors doing about the Meols Cop situation, apart from quietly ‘backing’ the Bootle – based friendship crusade and larger autocracy that seeks to gain full control over Southport residents in all matters.

Sefton CVS state:

‘World Friendship Day has been celebrated since 1930 and is all about bringing people together both to celebrate old friendships and create new ones. While World Friendship Day is mainly celebrated in Asia, the Council wants to bring it to Sefton this year and start a new tradition for residents.’

World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on 30th July. Therefore, can we perhaps expect Kew’s Labour councillors, Janis Blackburne and Sean Halsall to join their trusty comrade Cllr Lappin on the Meols Cop fields, armed with a nice plate of fancy cakes and cups of hot tea for the hungry travellers?

Why not make Bootle really happy, via bringing along the kids to Kew and making a fun-filled Friendship Day of it?
