Woodlands – Kitten Season – littered with litters of Kittens
Calling all potential kitten lovers – Woodlands Animal Sanctuary currently has over 5 litters of adorable kittens who have had their first vaccination and are therefore waiting to find their own forever loving home. All kittens available for re-homing from Woodlands Animal Sanctuary have been micro-chipped, will have been given their first vaccination, are up to date with flea and worm treatments and will have had, and subsequently been cleared, of any further health tests and checks they may need, (e.g. FELV).
For this, Woodlands ask for a donation of £80 when they re-home a kitten. This money goes some way towards covering the costs of the care mentioned previously. As a registered charity, Woodlands Animal Sanctuary must ensure that their finances are transparent as they are available to view, along with all other registered charity accounts, online for members of the public to follow. This means you can be wholly confident that all donations you make are traceable and you can follow exactly where your money goes.
If you are a regular supporter or follower of the sanctuary you will know that Woodlands is responsible for raising all of its own running costs. This is to cover animal feeds, medications, veterinary attention, care (in the form of wages for qualified knowledgeable staff) and building maintenance, to ensure their accommodation is as suitable as possible for their needs.
Woodlands Animal Sanctuary has a set number of pens, specifically designed to house cats and kittens. They are therefore not willing to take in any more rescues than they can accommodate at any one time so as to not compromise, health, welfare and care by taking in more animals than they can properly care for.
In situations like this, when they have a lot of beautiful, healthy, veterinary checked kittens ready and looking forward to starting a happy life in their very own forever loving homes it can be very frustrating to hear stories of kittens purchased from pet shops or unregistered breeders. For as long they are full, then they are not able to help any other animals. If they are unable to home the cats and kittens they have in, they are unable to take any others cases and so the whole process comes to a standstill.
Sam, who deals with all the re-homing cases says “The most wonderful aspect of choosing your new family member through Woodlands Animal Sanctuary is that you can give them the life they have always deserved when so many of our kittens have come from awful situations. One of our litters spent the first 7 weeks of their lives living in an abandoned couch in a back garden and did not know what toys were – but with love, affection and patience they are learning how to be kittens for the first time and it is truly moving to be a part of their progress.”
So please, if you think you have space in your heart and your home for a new kitten, please do not disregard those from reputable rescues, they may not be as cheap as some other sources – but please remember what that money is actually going towards. Registered charities are legally obliged to be accountable for their finances and so you can be fully guaranteed that your hard earned money will be going directly towards the cost already incurred of your new furry family member or towards helping the next sick, abandoned or unwanted cat or kitten.
