At the end of September Woodlands welcomed the most beautiful, unwanted pregnant cat through their doors. Indie, is a stunning Calico, a 2-year-old cat who at the beginning of this month gave birth to 6 of the most beautifully marked kittens. Whilst Indie, was underweight when she was admitted, she needed very little assistance from the team with the delivery of her kittens and has been a model mummy, with the whole family doing very well.
However, at the beginning of last week, Indie was rushed to the sanctuary’s vets, Rufford Veterinary Group, for an emergency life-saving operation. The operation was a success and Indie has now returned to the sanctuary after a few days with the vets. But unfortunately, it does mean that she will be unable to be reunited with her kittens and they are now being hand-reared.
It is thanks to wonderful volunteers that these kittens are being given a fighting chance at survival – but it’s by no means easy, because the kittens require feeding every 2 hours, throughout the day and night and with 6 of them this is not a quick job. It always amazes the team at Woodlands who offers to assist with hand-rearing either kittens or hogs, as members of staff also take on the task after they’ve finished their working day.
As well as time, which is invaluable, the cost of hand-rearing and the operation that Indie received will all need to be paid for, and this is following an expensive month for the charity in September. They have their last two fundraisers of the year, but these costs are over and above the costs these fundraising events are aimed at. So if you feel you are able, and would like to contribute to the care of these beautiful animals, you can do so by visiting Woodlands website, woodlandsanimalsanctuary.org.uk or clicking on one of their links on their Facebook page.
The charity’s last fundraising event of the year is their Christmas Fayre on Saturday 17th December, from 11-3 pm at Banks Leisure Centre, Greaves Hall Ave, Banks, Southport. PR9 8BL. Where you will be able to spend a relaxing festive day with your family and friends, enjoying the delicious food and treats on offer, peruse the stalls, turn your hand to one of the many games and even bring your pooch and join in with the fun dog show. Admittance is a donation on the door. What better way to spend the day on the run-up to Christmas – than enjoying yourself with your family whilst raising money for an excellent local cause?
