Woodlands – A smile breeds a smile
If you are a regular follower of Woodlands Animal Sanctuary you will know that whilst being a very rewarding organisation to be a part of, the road can often be winding and full of pot holes for the devoted team. From being overrun with hedgehogs, to the power cutting off, to dealing with illness’ with the animals to the boiler breaking – every day really is different and you never know just what challenges you are going to overcome that day.
Recently the team used the power of social media to help them replace the shelter boiler that had decided to take its last breath just as temperatures took a drop. Finding the funds for a new boiler and to have it fitted was not in the budget and large outlays like that can really cause small organisation such as Woodlands a financial issue. But even with all the craziness that seems to be going on around the world at the moment, the world of Woodlands Animal Sanctuary has been made that little bit brighter with all the good wishes and offers of help that have been given via social media.
Woodlands have now had a brand spanking shiny new boiler donated to them by the incredible team from MKM Southport, and another supporter has volunteered her brother who installs boilers to fit it for them. It is very difficult to put into words the power and strength, acts of kindness and encouraging words like this actually have towards those to whom it is directed.
Except it is suffice to say that everyone involved at Woodlands, and I’m willing to bet most of those who commented on the social media post, smiled that little bit broader, and carried their head just a little bit higher as the good wishes and support spread throughout those involved.
So amongst the stresses of everyday life remember that a smile or kind word from you, can make a big difference to the person who receives it.
If you don’t believe me – try it and see what happens! If you visit Woodlands Animal Sanctuary during one of their open days, you will also see a lot of the staff smiling at the animals – they are not crazy, or at least not because they are smiling at an animal! Smiles can often work across species’ and seem to have the same effect on us all – so why not keep spreading that little bit of happiness and see where it gets us?
If you would like to come and see the animals for yourself then you can do so on the next event that the charity are holding which is their Christmas Market on Sunday 17th December from 11-3pm.
