Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack at a house in Formby.
Officers were called to the address on Southport Road at around 2.20am after reports of a house fire. Officers found that the house and car on the drive were on fire. The three female occupants of the house were able to get out of the address and are unharmed.
Merseyside Fire service attended and were able to control the fire. It is indicated that the fire was started deliberately and is believed that this was a targeted attack.
An investigation has started and detectives are making CCTV and house-to-house enquiries.
Detective Inspector Robert Moss said: “This is a shocking incident that could have resulted in serious injury. This fire could have spread and endangered other people.
“We are increasing patrols in the area and I want to reassure our community that we are making every effort to trace and arrest the people responsible for bringing such reckless behaviour to our streets.
“I encourage anyone with information about this offence to come forward and talk to us on 0151 777 3017, via 101 or through Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
