Wimbledon fever hits Southport!
Every year during Wimbledon fortnight many thousands of people are inspired to take up tennis – often for the first time.
Southport’s North Meols Tennis Club, which is situated in Mill Lane Crescent, Churchtown, has responded by hosting a Wimbledon-inspired Open Day next Sunday, 9th July, from 2pm-4pm.
Everyone is welcome, from those who have never played tennis before to experienced club players – and of course any budding Andy Murrays. The event, which is to be run in conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association, is free and offers fun for all the family – including those who would like to try the game for the first time.
The club coach, Rob McNulty, will be on hand with expert coaching, advice and tips, as well as organising fun competitions with some great prizes. Tennis rackets will be available to borrow, the bar will be open and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.
Brian Duckett, Club Secretary, said: “Every year, by the end of the first week of Wimbledon, there is a surge in interest in tennis and we want to extend a warm welcome to anyone who fancies giving the game ago – from little ones to adults of any age. Our Wimbledon Open Day is for everyone, whatever your level of experience or ability”.
North Meols is one of the area’s leading tennis clubs, with eight all-weather courts, floodlighting and a new purpose-built clubhouse with bar. Social and competitive tennis is played all year round and there is a lively social programme for players and non-players alike.
