Oh, how glorious it would be for us if the Euro 2020 cup came to England. What a redeeming moment it would be after we fell by the wayside at the UEFA Champions League.
We have a lot of hope in the England team for Euro 2020; we still believe that they are more than capable of dominating the tournament and making sure that the cup stays home with us. The final game will be played at our own Wembley Stadium, that’s a great advantage for us. As fans, we are playing an active role in supporting our mother team. What is left is for the squad to give it their all, perform and dominate the championship.
Team Manager, Gareth Southgate most definitely has the perfect squad, with an estimated value of £1.2 billion. The only club that comes close to such a value is the French squad but with a difference of almost £100 million. That figure gives us the number one spot on the best-looking squad on paper. I mean with a team worth that much, try to imagine what type of players Southgate has. Our Three Lions have the potential that is needed by any team to win the Euros. It’s going to be epic!
The monetary value might be of little importance, but that doesn’t mean the squad isn’t worth the amount. If you are familiar with the Premier League, you would know that some of the biggest names and best potentials in football are from right here. Looking at the Euro 2020 group D, the one we are in, the other teams are no match for our squad. We are going against Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic. Our team will alienate the opposition with ease; the group stages will be a breeze. When we look back at the history of all the matches played against these three teams, England has more wins than losses against each team. We beat Croatia 5-1 on the 9th of Sept 2009 at the FIFA World Cup and won 5-0 against the Czech Republic and on the 22nd of March 2019 at the UEFA Championships. We also squashed Scotland 3-0 on the 11th of November 2016 at the FIFA World Cup.
Our squad is yet to be named, but we hope to have Harry Kane, our goal scoring machine in his striking position; Phil Foden, the youngster who changes the pace of a game in midfield at the blink of an eye, and Kyle Walker, one of the fastest defenders on any football pitch. Southgate has a tough choice selecting the first 11 but we know it will be a great team regardless. With this world class squad, we will be unstoppable.
As if our chances wouldn’t get any better, the team will have a very big home advantage. Three group stage games and the finals are expected to be hosted at our very own Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions are fan favourites all round the world and are most likely to make it to the finals as proven by their current form. If they do make it to the finals, there is a possibility that they would have our full backup in a full house stadium. All the support that they could ever need, all the cheering that they can ever long for would be right there at Wembley.
Southgate not only has our support, but the backing of football greats too, including Michael Owen. Owen, in an interview, told TalkSport that England has a great chance of winning, as they have a massive advantage of almost literally playing a home tournament.
In the words of Pele the football legend, “The level of football in England is top, English football is the leader of the World”. We await the tournament with much anticipation.
