Council chiefs say people may have to wait beyond April to get their £150 energy rebate.
Sefton Council have said they “aim” to get people their money prior to April 30th but stopped short of guaranteeing a date.
It was announced earlier this year that the government would give councils across the UK £150 to pay out to anyone who pays council tax and that the majority of the country would receive their rebate in April.
However Sefton Council have now said they ‘aim’ to pay the rebate into bank accounts before May but couldn’t guarantee they would do so in time.
A council web post said “For residents that pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit we intend to make your payment to your bank account in April and May, please do not contact us to enquire about your payment as this may delay how quickly you will be paid.
“If you don’t pay by Direct Debit, you will be contacted in due course to provide bank details for the payment to be made.”
However this has caused anger and frustration among council tax bill payers.
One said “They have had the money weeks ago.
“But nice bit of interest for them I guess. I wish I could vote this council out, they are absolutely incompetent.”
Another commented “Stop moving the goal posts! If the council have received the money from the government then they should pass it on! Why keep stalling.”
