As the summer break starts for all Premier League players, it’s time to reflect on the season as a whole, while also looking forward to the 2023/24 campaign and pondering what it could hold. Liverpool has some adjustments to make having only secured UEFA Europa League football and Everton barely survived in the PL, what needs to happen at both ends of Merseyside for the teams to improve and be seen as favourites with gambling sites again?
Liverpool: Getting back to the Elite Level
Jurgen Klopp had a much bigger rebuilding job on his hands when he first joined Liverpool. Since then he’s claimed the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League, along with a multitude of other accolades along the way. While the season will be defined by on-field results, those may be incredibly influenced by the summer transfer window.
The majority of the players on the Liverpool roster were sold contracts on the idea they’d be playing UEFA Champions League football. Next season, that’s not happening. They’re off on the UEFA Europa League trail, which isn’t quite as appealing. World-class players like Mohamed Salah, Alisson, and Virgil van Dijk might not be itching to leave but could easily be tempted by a team playing at the top table of European football.
However, if Salah suddenly decides that the grass would be greener in Paris or Madrid, then all bets are on for Liverpool to finish outside the top four, again. After all, the Egyptian had been the kingpin in their attacking outlet and offensive shape for some time now. Sadio Mane left last season leaving Salah to work with Darwin Nunez.
Of course, with the hullabaloo surrounding Sadio Mane’s unhappiness at Bayern Munich earlier in the season, there were some rumors that the Senegalese forward could return to Anfield. If he comes back to the club, Liverpool could easily get top four again, even if Newcastle United continues to throw money at the league
Yet if the overall shape of the team remains the same and they keep the majority of the key players, Liverpool should be one of the favorites with gambling sites to win the UEFA Europa League. While Real Betis, Freiburg, and Ajax are capable teams, Liverpool should have more than enough to dream about lifting the trophy at Aviva Stadium in Dublin come May 2024. It might be an idea to find odds now, as when their group stage is drawn the odds might go down in value if they are drawn against some incredibly weak opposition.
Everton: Can’t Keep Fighting Relegation Battles
While the Everton fanbase has a compelling stance on having a more exciting season than Liverpool, the reality is that their current trajectory isn’t amazing. The season just finished could have easily ended in tears as they barely survived relegation on the final day.
Time has shown that teams who get stuck in these battles face the drop sooner rather than later, Sunderland, Norwich City, and Leeds United all endured near-misses only to end up relegated from the Premier League.
The great unknown is what Sean Dyche and what he can do. His Burnley team of yesteryear adapted to the top flight of English football before slowly deteriorating, all on his watch. The Toffees will want to replicate the smooth ascendency up the Premier League standings but not a rough drop.
For budding sports bettors, there should be a few key markets to monitor when considering Everton for the 2023/24 season. If the team doesn’t make key signings, they could easily end up being relegated. These odds from UK-friendly gambling sites could only get shorter should Conor Coady head for the exit, as the former England international has been linked with transfers taking him away from the club.
The team could be galvanized by the notion that the upcoming season will be the last at Goodison Park as the team is scheduled to move into the Everton Stadium for the 2024/25 campaign. Surely the management, the players, and even the supporters will want to send off Goodison on a high?
Furthermore, hosting European football at their new state-of-the-art home would be a poetic fitting. A pre-season wager on Everton to get European football qualification from 2023/24 might present decent value at present.
