Weld road closed after pensioners hit by car

Emergency services have closed off part of Weld Road after two elderly pensioners were struck and injured,

Paramedics and police rushed to the scene near to the Birkdale Wine Rack after reports that two elderly pensioners, one man and one woman, had been hit by a car while trying to cross the road.

Both were treated at the roadside for serious injuries and taken to hospital.

Their current condition is unknown.
Police at the scene say the road will be opened shortly
