Southport Boxing legend Jon Lund makes his 80th appearance inside the ropes

SOUTHPORT Boxing legend Jon Lund has once again entered the ring – despite retiring in 2015. The Southport supremo, who definitely pulls no punches, took on Steve Hyland in a charity exhibition match at the Adelphi Hotel on Saturday night.

It was to be his, 80th time in the ring – marking the latest bout in an illustrious career which echoes back all the way to the early 1980s.

His sparring partner, novice Steve Hyland, went toe to toe with Jon but couldn’t match the legends flurry of punches.

Speaking to OTS News Jon said: “It was a good fight – Steve was only a novice so no big deal! “He’s a door lad from Liverpool who’d had 8 weeks training for it!”

Jon runs Southport Amateur Boxing Club in High Park.
