WARNING after Southport residents scammed by cold caller

Elderly residents across Southport are being warned about a new type of door to door scam.

An elderly couple were left confused and worried after a man knocked at their Southport home to say they were able to claim compensation for cavity wall insulation related damp.

During this visit the Male claimed that all he needed were copies of passports, national insurance numbers and driving licenses.

The unsuspecting couple gave him their details and he left, only for them later to discover this being a scam.

Police have been informed of the activity and are warning others in the area to remain vigilant and never to give out personal and private details which could lead to identity theft.
