Volunteer Speed Matching Event at Southport Community Centre! Thursday 1st February 2018

19th January 2018

Sefton residents looking for new volunteering opportunities are being invited to attend a speed dating-style event in Southport early next month.

The volunteer speed matching session is being run by Southport Community Centre at its Norwood Road HQ in the town between 11am and 1pm on Thursday 1st February.

Organisers say the event will be a ‘fun, fast and free way’ for residents to find their ideal volunteering opportunity.

They also stress that a wide range of roles will be available, from advising young people to supporting elderly residents and becoming a mentor to ex-offenders.

Participants will be able to chat to representatives from voluntary and community sector organisations from across the borough, and learn about the opportunities they have on offer.

These organisations will include the Brighter Living Partnership, Include-IT Mersey, Community Connectors, Merseyside Offender Mentoring and the Youth and Community Partnership.

Staff from Sefton Volunteer Centre will also be on hand to offer expert advice on the advantages of volunteering.

These can include meeting new people, making new friends, learning new skills and being part of a team looking to make a positive difference to life in the area.

Southport Community Centre Manager, Philip Blocksidge, commented: “This event is designed for people who are considering volunteering, but aren’t sure what they can do and how to go about it.

“The speed matching session will be a great way for them to meet and find out more about organisations that could benefit from the knowledge, skills and commitment they have to offer.”

Although the event is free, for planning purposes residents are asked to register in advance by ringing 01704 517810 or emailing info@southportcommunitycentre.org.uk.
