Vital repair work to get underway at Southport church

23rd January 2019

A Southport town centre landmark is finally ready for vital repair work to get underway.

The striking steeple at St George’s United Reform Church on Lord Street will be re-pointed as early as spring, following months of fundraising by church volunteers.

A spokesperson for the St George’s Steeple Appeal group said: “It seems a long time ago that the ‘Southport Local Vocals’ kick-started a fun- draising appeal for our steeple, with a generous gift of £800.

It was, in fact, only two years ago and we are already more than half way to reaching our target of £16,000 thanks to the many donations we have received and much hard work.

“We have been heartened by the support and warm wishes we have received and are pleased to state that we expect to carry out the work this spring. So look out for the steeplejacks – you will be fascinated by their skill as they move over the spring.”
