Valewood Primary, Crosby enjoy fun filled life saving first aid session

8th October 2019

What a fabulous fun filled crazy ‘bandage wrapping time’ did the children of Valewood Primary School in Crosby enjoy recently. Delivered by Jonathan Cunningham from STORM the children enjoyed a fun fueled first aid session like no other! Jonathan taught 70 children from years 4-6 and what a time they had! Jonathan said, ‘teaching young children basic first aid in a fun, crazy manner ensures the information is retained. They will never forget this super crazy session today and maybe the difference required to save a precious life.’ Early on in the year Jonathan delivered a first aid session at an Ormskirk Primary School. The first aid taught resulted in 7 year old Lucas James saving his choking sister in the bath 6 hours later! With first aid now forming part of the curriculum keeping it fun and crazy is the only way to deliver these life saving skills to young people.

When Jonathan is not training children he is the Southport Community First Responder Team Leader. Jonathan is a qualified enhanced responder who is called to 999 calls within the community. The children were shown the exciting equipment Jonathan has to carry. During the session the children took part in an exciting ‘live-link’ with the North West Ambulance Operational Control Centre in Speke. The children where able to speak with ambulance call operator Nicky Lopez who explained how they dispatch ambulances and the critical information required by the ambulance service. It was very exciting!

Headteacher Ms Helen Tantouri, ‘We were so impressed with the STORM first aid session. It was a fun and interactive session which the children really enjoyed. It allowed the children to be full participants in learning important life skills to potentially save a life. I am sure that our children will not forget these essential life skills. Thanks to Jonathan who really engaged the children and who then remained and delivered a first aid session to our teaching assistants and lunchtime supervisors.

All children received a signed certificate.  If your school would like to book a session with Jonathan then phone STORM and speak to Joanne on 01704 320008. 2020 bookings are being taken now. These skills could save a life!
