US Masters winner Jordan Spieth was the toast of Hesketh Golf Club last night after his emphatic victory at Augusta.
And, according to Derek Holden, the club’s past captain and former Lancashire County president, some of them will be laughing all the way to the bank today.
For Spieth’s burgeoning talent did not go unnoticed when, aged 14, he finished runner-up in the R&A Junior Open staged at the club in 2008 – to Thailand’s Morlya Jutanugarn who today plays on the women’s tour!
Holden, who presented the trophies,in his role of club president, said: “I suspect our members took full advantage of the 10-1 odds on offer before the start of the Masters!”
