Merseyside Police have arrested two men following a serious road traffic collision in Birkdale yesterday (Saturday 24 November 2018) involving a cyclist and three cars.
A report was received shortly before 7.50pm that a grey Seat Leon Cupra, a black Mercedes AMG CLA and a blue Mercedes C Class car had been in collision, before a 25-year-old man was knocked from his bicycle on Lulworth Road.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries where his condition is described as critical.
The driver of the Seat and blue Mercedes stopped at the scene while the black Mercedes AMG CLA was driven from the scene in the direction of Southport town centre.
Officers attended and a search undertaken for the driver of the black Mercedes, who was located a short time later.
A 25-year-old man from Banks, Lancashire and a 26-year-old man from Bootle were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and taken for interview.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information, or was passing at the time and has dashcam footage is asked to contact Merseyside Police.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the Seat Leon and black Mercedes being driven in the minutes before the incident.
