Councillor Barton said: “On behalf of the people of Southport I would like to congratulate and thank Sefton Council and all the Departments involved for this latest community success.”
“Having first raised this as part of my ongoing town audit to restore the town and attract further inward investment into the Southport Town Centre I am delighted that the Lord Street Railings and tall style Lamp-Post Columns shall finally be refurbished in time for The Open golf championships.
After conducting my own consultation process with the many business and property owners during my Conservation campaign to regenerate our Classic Resort town I was informed that if the preferred red and cream colour could not be agreed upon the residents would prefer a black and gold style design reminiscent to the signature Victorian street furniture across Southport and the wider Sefton region which includes the trademark entrance signs to the North of Southport in Churchtown and the new addition of the tourist sign at St. George’s Place within Lord Street Gardens.
Once again I can only reiterate the importance of listening to and respecting the views of the local residents and key stakeholders, especially the retail sector within Southport Town Centre, without whom the funding for this latest project and many other essential services provided by Sefton Council could not have otherwise been made possible that contribute greatly to our local economy.”
