Dukes Ward Councillor David Barton has secured an additional £1000 on top of the previous £500 specifically requested from the Dukes Ward fund for the watering browser at this week’s Southport Area Committee meeting for fellow colleagues at the Lord Street In Bloom Volunteers.
The Dukes Ward are hopeful that any remaining funds shall come from an undisclosed third party who wish not to be named at this time.
Dukes Ward Councillor Barton said:
“Having been involved in the Lord Street In Bloom Community project here in Dukes Ward each week during this summer I am delighted that together me, Mrs Pauline Morris and our exceptional team of regular volunteers have managed to achieve this triumph for the town!
Having partaken myself in up to 15 consecutive weekly sessions this year it is a pleasure to see us take the next step forward in terms of not only improving our town for local residents, but also the wider tourist economy and aspiring businesses of whom we gladly welcome to invest here in Southport.
I would like to pay special appreciations to all our new regular members who have supported us consistently this year including: Rose Tapper of Tapper’s Café & Bar, Doggie Kerr, Zoe Stanmore of Southport Dobbies, Nicky Plaistow and Denise Thomas of Southport Sainsbury’s, Jacky Bliss, Caroline Grogan and the Southport Hoteliers’ Association who have all enabled us to make the necessary jump from “Thriving” to “Outstanding” for this year’s floral North West In Bloom Competition.”
