POLICE can confirm emergency services attended a report of a fatal flat fire in Southport early on Sunday morning (26 April 2020).
Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service just before 6am to the report on Promenade.
Firefighters had discovered the body of a woman at the property after being called to a report of a fire contained within the flat.
She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The fire was extinguished before the arrival of emergency services, and the flats were evacuated while the fire service made the premises safe.
An investigation will take place in conjunction with the fire service into the cause of the fire. At this time, it is not being treated as suspicious.
The woman has not yet been formally identified.
