UPDATE | Body discovered near to Lord street homeless camp

Police are investigating following the unexplained death of a man in Southport this morning (Monday 11 March 2019).

Emergency services were called to Lord Street shortly before 7.45am to reports a man had been found deceased on a bench. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Officers are working to identify the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, and inform his next of kin.

At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained and a post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death.

Officers remain in attendance at this time and crime scene investigators will examine the scene.
