UPDATE: Arriva driver cleared after death of mum-of-three in Southport

Derek Bebbington, of Burscough, denied causing death by careless driving and was set to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

However, a judge ruled on Tuesday 18th October that there was “insufficient evidence” to prove that even if he should have seen Ms Lloyd, he could have stopped before hitting her.

Bus driver, Derek Bebbington has pleaded not guilty to killing Southport mum Jacqueline Lloyd by careless driving.

Derek Bebbington, of Burscough, denied a single charge of causing death by “inconsiderate driving” as he appeared at Sefton Magistrates’ court this afternoon, Friday 13 May 2016

The court how Jacqueline Lloyd died after being struck by an Arriva bus in Southport last year.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned earlier this month at Southport Town Hall.

Mr Bebbington spoke to confirm his personal details. He then entered a not guilty plea before a short hearing.

The 57-year-old is accused of driving a single decker bus “without due care and attention” on the night of May 17.

District Judge McGarva sent the case to Liverpool Crown Court for a hearing on June 10 2016

Bus driver to face court over death of Southport woman Jacqueline Lloyd

A bus driver is set to face court after a Southport mum was killed after being hit by a bus.

The inquest into Jacqueline Carol Lloyd’s death was opened at Southport Town Hall today.

Mrs Lloyd, 46, died on May 17 last year after being hit by a bus on Butts Lane, Southport. around midnight.

The inquest heard that a post mortem examination conducted on May 19 revealed that Mrs Lloyd, a mum-of-three, died of multiple injuries

The case was passed to the CPS and the CPS have now charged the driver of the bus, Derek Bebbington, 56, with causing death by careless driving.

Bebbington, from Burscough, is due to appear at Sefton Magistrates on May 13.
