UPDATE

Andrew Burke has appeared in court accused of the murder of a travel agent in Southport.

Burke, 30, spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth as he stood before magistrates in Liverpool this morning, Monday 15 January 2018.

Burke, from St Helens, stands charged with the murder of mum Cassie Hayes.

Burke, wearing a grey T-shirt and black trousers, watched proceedings from the dock as legal representatives discussed how his case would be managed.

David McLachlan, defending, said his client will not be disputing his identity. A psychiatric report on Burke was ordered by Judge Clement Goldstone QC, who oversaw the hearing.

Andrew Burke will appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and case preparation hearing in February.

A man has been charged with the murder of a travel agent who was killed at her workplace in Southport.

Andrew Burke, 30, of Vincent Street, St Helens, will appear from custody at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court in Bootle this morning, Monday 15 January.

Andrew Burke, 30, is understood to be the man taken into custody after Cassie Hayes was brutally murdered in a frenzied attack.

The 28-year-old was attacked inside TUI travel agents on Chapel Street, Southport, yesterday afternoon.

She later died in hospital, with Merseyside Police saying a post-mortem exam revealed she passed away from shock and haemorrhaging.

The murderer accused of much loved Southport travel agent Cassie Hayes has been revealed as a knife advocate.

Andrew Burke is being questioned by police over the murder of much loved Miss Hayes as hundreds of people continue to lay flowers at the site of the horrific attack.

It was also revealed today that Burke, 30, shared a petition online before the attack to ask the government to relax knife laws.

The shocking murder has left the town in a state of disbelief with hundreds of people and mourners paying their respects to Cassie who was incredibly well liked among those who knew her.

Burke, a reported love rival, is being kept in custody awaiting charge.
