Visitors to the Southport Air Show were left disappointed after the Red Arrows cancelled just moments before they were meant to take the the skies over Southport Beach.
A statement from the RAF Red Arrows Facebook page confirmed: “Unfortunately, our display at Southport Air Show has been cancelled due to a very wet runway at the operating base of Blackpool Airport and low cloud, unsuitable for close formation display flying.”
A spokesperson for Sefton Council confirmed that the Red Arrows will return at 2.20pm for a reduced “fly past display”. No other sccheduled flights or displays are thought to be affected by weather conditions.
OTS News has also received various reports regarding heavy traffic and difficulty parking for those approaching the show by car.
Arriva has announced that the 47 and 300 bus services will terminate at Bootle due to traffic congestion in Southport.
One user on X, formerly Twitter, said they had queued two hour only to be told the car park had been closed. Another suggested they had been “sat on Marine Drive for three hours.”
Sefton Council said: “Due to poor ground conditions caused by extreme high tides a decision was taken to keep Southport Beach car park closed.
“Our teams have been working hard throughout the last few days to take steps to try and improve ground conditions in the hopes that we may have still been able to provide beach parking.
“Despite these efforts the condition of the beach has not improved to a satisfactory condition and allowing vehicles onto the site could lead to cars becoming stuck.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption this may cause visitors.”
