Homeless man, Mark Parker was described as a “lovable rogue”by the people who knew him.
Mark Parker, was found at around 7.10am near to the monument.
Police cordoned off a stretch of Lord Street after a member of the public discovered Mark’s body.
A police spokesperson said:
“At this stage there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances but the force is currently treating the death as unexplained while investigations continue”.
Mark friend said:
“Mark was a good man at heart. He is now in a better place”.
Mark was a regular visitor Southport Soup Kitchen and a homeless charity Light For Life and is also believed to have received help and support from Christ Church on Lord Street.
Justin Dempster, founder of Southport Soup Kitchen, said:
“One of our guests Mark Parker was found dead on Lord Street early Saturday morning, while we have no night shelter this has happened before and will happen again.
A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the man’s cause of death.
