Temporary traffic lights on a busy artery road in Southport will still be in place during the Air Show this weekend.
The council say they won’t be able to remove temporary traffic lights on Meols Cop Road to let traffic flow better.
The road is reduced to one lane due to the Sainsbury’s development.
Meols Cop Road is treated as one of the main routes for all Air Show traffic in and out of Southport.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “Vital roadworks are taking place on Meols Cop Road relating to the creation of a nearby supermarket development.
“Due to the nature of these works temporary traffic lights have been utilised and the carriageway is reduced to one lane.
“During the weekend of the Southport Air Show (Saturday September 9th and Sunday September 10th) priority will be given to traffic entering the resort in the morning and to traffic leaving the resort in the evening.
“This is to ensure any disruption to traffic is kept to a minimum during these busy times.
“An assessment of the ground conditions has shown that It is not possible to temporarily reopen the carriageway in both directions and doing so could risk damage to vehicles.”
