A further night’s closure to complete a major upgrade at junction 17 of the M6 in Cheshire is due to take place tonight (Friday 24 July).
The Highways England scheme, designed to tackle congestion and boost safety, has improved the flow of traffic between the M6 and A534 with a new roundabout and traffic lights. A new ‘free flow’ lane also takes drivers onto the northbound side of the motorway, bypassing the roundabout.
The newly remodelled junction has been in operation since April but finishing works will be completed tonight after a weekend of working earlier this month was disrupted by an incident and poor weather.
Tonight’s work requires the closure of all 4 slip roads at the motorway junction with drivers seeking to join or leave the motorway directed by clearly-signed diversions to other motorway junctions. The bridge carrying the local A534 over the motorway will also be closed with drivers travelling between Congleton and Sandbach also provided with clearly-signed diversions.
The work tonight – to complete road markings and installing road studs – will start at 8pm and will be completed by 7am tomorrow morning (Saturday 25 July).
