The place in Preston where Southport’s MP was until recently a councillor has fallen to the Liberal Democrats.
There was a serious defeat for the Conservatives in Preston City Council’s Greyfriars Ward on May 2nd. The election of three Lib Dem councillors in Greyfriars Ward, part of Fulwell, helped the Lib Dems to double their numbers on Preston City Council.
Damien Moore MP remailed as a local councillor in Preston’s Greyfairs Ward throughout 2017-2018 after becoming Suthport’s MP. Few people know that Mr Moore also tried to get elected in another Preston seat on the Lancashire County Council in May 2017 but lost out to Preston Lib Dems’ leader John Potter – only one month before his parliamentary win in Southport.
The result came as the Conservatives, led in their campaigning by Damien Moore had their worst local election results in Southport ever, winning only Ainsdale Ward in a town where they once used to win 6 out of 7 seats.
