Time is ticking to save Southport clock

Southport is living up to its reputation as the town that time forgot after the Atkinson clock stopped.

Bad weather over the weekend has battered the old clock tower and now panels from the clock face have blown into the mechanism breaking the clock.

The time stopped late yesterday afternoon and OTS News understands it could be stuck like that for weeks as the Atkinson can’t find anyone with the necessary skill to fix it.

The clock is one of the last remaining iconic fixtures of the town and it’s depressing state is likely to put off the last of the die hard tourists who come to Southport.
