Thousands of Orange Lodge members marched through Southport in an event praised as “well-behaved” with no arrests made by police.

Lodges from Bootle and Liverpool led the parade, joined by hundreds of Orange Lodge members from the Midlands, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

The procession, which included young and old, began by Southport station and then headed along the Promenade to the Pleasureland funfair and back down Neville Street.

Southport businessman Graham Cook said:

“Today has been a success. Everyone has been very well behaved. ”

There was a ban on street drinking in Southport and British Transport Police also said they would prevent drunks from boarding trains.
