A considerable sum of money that goes towards buying food and drink for the animals in Botanic Gardens has been stolen.
Thieves reportedly broke into the gardens overnight on Sunday September 25th and made off with the contents of a donation box.
It’s not known how much was taken in the raid. The donation box was shattered and money was taken, said a Botanic Gardens Aviary spokesperson.
They said “Unfortunately one of our donation boxes has been broken into and the contents have been stolen, We are currently reviewing our fantastic CCTV cameras looking for the person(s) who have done this.
“The donation box is now damaged so is currently unusable, the donations that people kindly put into the boxes goes to the Botanic Gardens Community Association volunteers, which then goes towards the outgoings of the aviary for things like: food, bedding, fresh fruit & veg, veterinary costs and other supplies.”
