The Weld Blundell Pub closes its doors to make way for a petrol station and drive through cafe
The Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby bypass closes its doors for the final time today, Sunday 13th May 2018. That also includes the children’s soft play area known as ‘Play Zone’ which used to be the Wacky Warehouse.
The Weld Blundell, which has been there for over 70 years on Scaffold Lane, Ince Blundell and has seen many extensions over the years.
A statement from the pub said: “It’s with a heavy heart we write this final update –
As many of you will be aware the business has been up for sale for some time, the difficult decision has been made to close the business as of the 13th OF MAY 2018.”
“We would like to extend our greatest thanks to all our lovely customers who have stuck with us throughout our journey here at the Weld Blundell Arms .”
A planning application was submitted to Sefton Council for the demolition of the Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby Bypass and to erect a 10-pump petrol filling station with ancillary retail and drive thru cafe/restaurant along with a new bowling green clubhouse and improvements to the existing bowling green. According to the EG Group, 45 jobs will be created through the development.
As far as we are aware, the bowling green cannot be removed as it was originally gifted by the land owner so it will remain and will be improved.
The agent name for the planning application is PWA Planning. There are some concerns by local residents that this is already a busy junction and notorious accident spot, as well as a large amount of congestion at peak times throughout the day. There are also already three garages within 5 minutes of this particular spot.
