The Sovini Group completes work on retreat for wounded soldiers.
The Sovini Group has completed work on a Merseyside retreat for wounded and ex-servicemen and women seeking recovery from injuries.
Code’s Retreat is a dedicated area of Altcar Training Camp in Hightown, consisting of four lodging pods, a shower block and a fire pit. The area provides a space that wounded soldiers can use as part of their recovery.
The aim of the project is to provide a pleasant, secluded and secure location for military personnel in recovery to take relaxing breaks as part of their recuperation process.
They will have a chance to chat to the staff, and enjoy the wildlife and scenery.
The Sovini Group was responsible for building the shower block, which consists of a kitchen, dining area and two level access wet rooms, a WC, the fire pit and a barbeque.
Several companies across The Sovini Group came together for the project – Sovini Property Services provided labour, Sovini Trade Supplies provided the materials and Carroll Build provided site management, onsite design and labour.
A number of Sovini Property Services apprentices worked alongside more senior operatives to deliver the build.
The ablutions block was opened by Sovini Trade Supplies employee Peter Collins, who is also a Veteran who served in the Royal Logistics Core for 22 years.
The completion of the project comes just in time for Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24th June – the annual national campaign where people can show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present.
Ian Fazakerley, Group Executive Director at The Sovini Group and Armed Forces Champion, said: “We are proud to support this project, and contribute to the recovery of those who put their lives at risk for our safety.
“As a Group, we work hard to support the Armed Forces, and this is reflected in our achievement of the Silver Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme award.”
Lt Col Gordon Black, Commandant at Altcar Training Camp, said: “Since we started this project we’ve really been overwhelmed by the support of the local community and local businesses.
“The Sovini Group’s generosity, support and expertise has been invaluable in taking the next step with the project, helping us to provide robust facilities to enhance the site for future users.
“When complete, the site will provide a real haven for recuperating servicemen and women.”
