A Southport Gentlemen of Rock’n’Roll presentation
Fleetwood Hesketh Club, Southport
Review by Ron Ellis
It was another successful night for The Southport Gentlemen of Rock’n’Roll last Friday when one of the top bands of the 60’s,The Ivy League, famous for ‘Tossing and turning’, ‘Funny how love can be’, etc., delighted a packed house with their soaring harmonies and ready banter.
Many people had travelled a considerable distance to see the show and the group established an immediate rapport with their audience, quickly filling the dance floor and finishing to three standing ovations. An hour plus of Solid Sixties Gold.
Southport’s ever-popular Sandgrounders opened and closed the show with their usual enthusiasm and the compere for the evening was veteran D.J., Kevin Linden, who kept the show moving in his inimitable style.
The next show will be on Thursday May 14th when the country’s top Cilla Black tribute artiste, Julia A. Scott, will star in a special Mersey Beat Show, alongside The Fabulous Bootles, back by popular demand.
Tickets are just £10. Available from the club after 7.30pm or from Walmayne Motors, Linaker Street, Southport. Or book online at www.bigalpromo.ticketsource.co.uk
