Report by Adam Gillett – waiter at The Metro.
Now and again you read a story in the paper that makes you smile, well this ladies and gentlemen is that story.
On Friday the 11th of September a charity event was held at The Metro bar and hotel in the newly constructed function room, the aim of the evening was to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s society as well as raising money and having a relaxed and enjoyable evening while building bridges between the community and various businesses.
The evening consisted of a tasty three course meal created by the talented chefs at The Metro, throughout the evening guests could tickle their taste buds on the wonderful selection of food as well as enjoy drinks from the bar and listen to music of various singers followed by a DJ which continued until late into the night. The introduction to the evening was lead by Paul Humphreys for who set up the event and helps run Assured Care in partnership with his wife Lisa. The speech he gave was quite entertaining which kept the guests laughing throughout, he also spoke a lot about the deadly disease and how it affects over 40million people worldwide!
Towards the end of the event there was a charity auction which consisted of various prizes donated by local businesses, people could bid on the prizes and the highest would win the prize with all the proceeds going to charity. I can tell you now the event was a huge success not only was over £1000 pounds raised, with more money still coming in, we all learned a lot about the deadly disease and had fun! The amount of money touched my heart and you could tell when the guests were leaving at the end of the night that it touched them as well. An event like this shows that when called on the community will rally round for a good cause and show that they are willing to work together as a team to help defeat a problem.
Special thanks are in order for everyone who attended and to Assured Care and The Metro for arranging this event, if you have any inquires about the event please contact Assured Care North West on 01704 514488 and ask for either Lisa or Paul Humphreys.
