A UK-based sustainable stationery company has launched an innovative solution to paper waste, creating products that can be planted to grow into wildflowers.
SeedPrint, operated by fourth-generation printer Thomas Willday from Willday Printers, manufactures specialty paper embedded with wildflower seeds that can be planted after use, transforming traditional paper products into living gardens.
“It does what it says on the tin. It’s handmade fully recycled paper embedded with wildflower seeds,” said a SeedPrint spokesman. “Just follow the instructions provided, but crucially, plant in soil, water, grow flowers. Magic.”
The paper, ranging from 200 to 300gsm in thickness, is created by turning recycled paper into pulp before adding seeds. Each piece is unique, with slight variations in texture, thickness, and shade.
“People are always banging on about being sustainable, so this is the chance to actually DO sustainable,” the spokesman added. “Seed paper is zero-waste, fully recycled, and made from other people’s paper scraps. It supports our pollinators, who are basically the good guys putting food on our plates.”
The company recommends planting in spring for optimal results, though the paper can also be planted indoors with regular access to daylight and water. While the paper maintains its viability for up to two years, customers are encouraged to “get cracking” with planting to ensure the best germination rates.
The innovative product range includes business cards, wedding invitations, memorial cards, and corporate stationery, offering businesses and individuals an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional paper products.
