Damien Moore MP recently met with NSPCC representatives in Parliament to support their Are You There? campaign.
One in ten children suffer from some form of a mental health condition, but only a minority get appropriate support at an early enough stage.
In its recent Green Paper – Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision – the government has pledged to take action to ensure more early support is available for children and young people experiencing poor mental health.
The NSPCC has a unique ability to demonstrate the concerns and priorities of children and young people through their Childline service. In 2016/17 Childline delivered over 295,000 counselling sessions to children and young people who wanted to talk about their problems.
Are you there? is a new campaign to highlight the vital role that Childline can play as part of the landscape of early mental health support available to young people, and the NSPCC is calling on the Government to support Childline to provide a lifeline for every young person who is struggling with their mental health or experiencing low wellbeing.
Commenting on the campaign, Damien said:
“As the Vice-Chairman of the APPG on Mental Health and as a citizen, I was more than happy to support the NSPCC’s Are You There? campaign.
The NSPCC do some outstanding work to support young people and children and it is important we recognise their unwavering commitment to supporting those experiencing poor mental health.
“The Government has already pledged to take action to ensure more early support is available, but I will work with charities such as the NSPCC to see what more we can do to ensure no child is left behind.”
