The sun sets on local MG Owners Club

5th May 2017

Last night was the West Lancs. MG Owners Club second mid-month meet of the summer and the chosen venue by Ron, our events and monthly meet co-ordinator, was the Heaton’s Bridge, a lovely canal side pub on the B5242 in Scarisbrick, in the heart of West Lancashire.

It’s a well known landmark with the leisure boating fraternity; if you delve a little deeper into its history you’ll find it still has a World War 2 freestanding brick pillbox, part of the home-guard defence! The pub hosts a twice yearly show of WW2 military vehicles so not wanting to end up as expensive scrap we choose a night the BIG GUNS weren’t going to show up!

The night proved a extremely for MG owners with 21 MG’s and three other classics on show; an MG-ZR, two MGF’s, an MG-TF, two Midgets, an MGA, two MGB-GT’s, an MGA Coupe, eight MGB’s, two MG-T’C’s from 1945/1946 and an MG-TF from 1954. Also on show were a Mini 850, Morris 1100 and a beautiful Mini Traveller along with 38 members and guests.

The weather wasn’t too bad with sunshine all evening but with a brisk wind which could only be described as biting at times. But at sunset we were rewarded with a beautiful sight of the sun going down over the canal in the direction of Halsall.

Members would like to thank Steve, Jacqui and staff for the very warm welcome and the hospitality we received at the Heaton’s Bridge Inn. For a small donation to Southport Lifeboat, the pub’s chosen charity, we received plentiful hot-dog sausage and chips suppers which on this early summer evening was most welcome indeed.

*If you like socialising, car runs while having a bit of fun with like minded people and have an MG or classic you’re most welcome to join WLMGOC. We meet every third Thursday at 8.00pm at Briars Hall, Lathom; check out our FB page (West Lancs. MG Owners) or www.westlancsmg.co.uk
