Sudden downpours cause flash flooding in Southport

Sudden downpours this morning have caused flash flooding in Southport, Tuesday 5 September 2017.

Several roads were left tally under water including Preston New Road and many in Birkdale.

Resort resident, Gary Burgess ssaid: “The road under Southport Pier is under a foot of water and impassable to small vehicles, Coast Road also badly flooded in places!”

Heavy rain this morning, easing through the afternoon.

Today:

There will be heavy outbreaks of rain through the morning, but this will clear during the day to leave a drier and brighter end to the afternoon. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

The clear spells will remain into the evening, with temperatures falling much lower than last night. Despite the odd shower for some, most places will stay dry. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday:

Wednesday will be mostly dry with patchy cloud and a few bright spells. However, there is still the risk of the odd shower in places. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Turning windy on Thursday with a spell of heavy rain for a time. Windy with heavy showers on Friday and Saturday with brief bright spells. Generally feeling cool.
