Stormy winds take down massive Roe Lane tree

Traffic has been brought to a standstill in Churchtown after a tree collapsed in heavy rain on Roe Lane.

Police have closed off Roe Lane near to the Spar Farage this morning after a heavy tree was completely blown down onto the carriageway causing major destruction to a nearby wall.

Nobody was injured during the collapse and now council workers and police are working to clear away the tree.
However due to its size and weight the operation is expected to take a number of hours.

Traffic is currently being diverted and drivers are being asked to avoid the area
