Storm Damage Update | Formby Beach

12th February 2020

Rangers have been working hard assessing the impact of storm Ciara. Unfortunately as you’ll see from the photos below this special place has taken quite a battering.

Tree surveys are almost complete and thankfully there isn’t much damage done in the woodland areas. However there is currently no safe access route on and off the beach at either Victoria Road or Lifeboat Road.

For the safety of visitors, volunteers and staff we must therefore temporarily close all main access routes to the beach. Victoria Road car park remains closed. Signs are in place across the site warning of the risks.

The force of the high winds and tides have caused significant damage to the boardwalk at Lifeboat Road. Natural dune cliffs have formed all along the coastline. At Victoria Road an additional hazard is the exposure of rubble.

We are considering the available options, will continue to keep you updated and hope to provide safe access as soon as possible. However this is likely to take a few days, especially with another storm forecast for the weekend.

Thank you for your on-going support and understanding.
