Steve Haw appointed Southport FC General Manager

Southport FC are delighted to announce that club legend Steve Haw has joined as our new General Manager. Steve’s role will involve him overseeing the club’s day-to-day off-field operations.

Steve Haw enjoyed a stellar playing career at Southport which saw him score 87 goals in 184 appearances in all competitions and he was last year named by the Southport Visiter as the club’s best player of the last 30 years. Signing from Marine under Brian Kettle for just £500, Steve spent 4 and a half years at the club. He scored 31 goals in 1992/93, helping the club win the Northern Premier League.

Steve Haw is still a serving firefighter for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and is retiring this November after a 30-year operational career. He will work part-time at the club around his Fire Service work commitments before joining full time from November. He is also a Trustee of the Vital Signs Foundation (VSF) and is married to Tracey and has 5 children: Chris, Jeni, Jack, Becky and Emma.

Steve Haw said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to offer my organisational skills gained within the Fire Service to good use by helping my hometown club enhance existing and develop new relationships on and off the pitch within the local community. I am a people person and want to make sure everyone visiting The Merseyrail Community Stadium has a pleasant, positive and safe experience. By building on the great work of the former Commercial and Community Director Haydn Preece, I hope I can add real value and assist in the development of the ground so that we have excellent facilities for the playing staff to use and for our supporters to be proud of.”

James Treadwell said: “Steve Haw needs no introduction to our supporters and we are very excited to have him join us at the club. With Haydn stepping down after 11 years, we needed someone with knowledge of the club, commercial acumen, management experience and organisational skills and Steve brings that in abundance. We know he is going to be a fantastic asset for the club and I look forward to working with him.”
