St George’s Day Sadness Over Referendum Betrayal

22nd April 2019

St George’s Day this year should have been a cause for special celebration – but sadly it isn’t, said local MEP Paul Nuttall.

“We should have officially waved goodbye to the European Union and its stranglehold over us by now, and tomorrow was due to be our first St George’s Day in an independent Britain.

“But as we are all too painfully aware the Government’s pledge to honour the 2016 Referendum result has been cynically betrayed.

“We must still celebrate the patron saint of England and many I know will wear the traditional red rose to mark the occasion as usual.

“I hope that this year they will be joined by many others as a sign to those in Westminster that not only are we proud to be English but we are angry how the wishes of the majority have been dismissively trampled on by those in authority.

“I repeat my annual call for April 23 to be declared a bank holiday and pray that by next year we will actually be free to make our own decisions without foreign interference,” said Mr Nuttall, Brexit Party Euro-MP.
