The Spurs are spending big this summer and all set to be a competitive force, looking for a top finish under Ange Postegclou.
In this pursuit of success, all those with Tottenham tickets have welcomed the move of Dominic Solanke.
Dominic Solanke to Spurs
Dominic Solanke is set to undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur after a £65million deal was agreed with Bournemouth for the striker.
Solanke is expected to sign a six-year contract with the north London club.
The forward is desperate to move to Spurs, and he was head coach Ange Postecoglou’s top summer transfer target.
Media reported that Bournemouth had agreed to sell Solanke for a club-record fee earlier on Friday, and talks with Spurs were ongoing to finalize a deal for the striker.
He is under contract with Bournemouth until 2029, but the striker’s contract contains a £65million ($83m) release clause that certain clubs can trigger.
Spurs have not signed a senior striker since Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich last summer, and the fans with Tottenham tickets were eager to see what the club does with the transfer they acquired from the sale.
Solanke is part of the solution. Postecoglou is keen to acquire a No 9 that suits his style of play, and Solanke’s profile fits the bill.
“What’s important is the type of striker we get,” Postecoglou said during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Japan. “You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective from its technical aspects that it will be a striker that fits that mold.
“It’s still the area of the park, and we’re probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us.”
Tottenham forward Richarlison, meanwhile, ruled out a summer move to the Saudi Pro League when speaking to ESPN Brasil on Thursday. “The money is big, but my dream is bigger,” said the Brazilian, who has three years remaining on his Spurs contract.
Solanke’s Skill Fits the Spurs
Solanke registered his best top-flight return last season, scoring 19 Premier League goals to help Bournemouth secure a 12th-place finish. Given his release clause and several top sides’ desire to strengthen their forward lines, Bournemouth have been working on potential Solanke replacements this summer.
Solanke began his career at Chelsea before joining Liverpool in 2017 on a free transfer. He made the switch to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee in 2019. The Merseyside club holds a 20 percent sell-on clause from the deal and could receive as much as £9m if Spurs trigger his release clause.
Spurs have made two signings this summer, with 18-year-old midfielders Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall arriving from Leeds United and Djurgarden, respectively.
They have also agreed on a deal to sign South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk, who will join the squad in January.
Solanke missed out on selection for England’s European Championship squad, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins selected as back-ups to Kane.
Tottenham begins the 2024-25 Premier League campaign at newly promoted Leicester City on August 19.
Harry Redknapp Backs Mikey Moore
Harry Redknapp has told Ange Postecoglou not to let Mikey Moore’s age prevent him from being deployed in the first team.
The 16-year-old was one of Tottenham Hotspur’s standout players throughout the pre-season. Moore, who only recently sat his GCSE exams, scored against Hearts and found the winning goal in Spurs’ 3-2 victory over Vissel Kobe.
His displays with the first team proceeded with his electric performances for England in the UEFA Under-17 European Championships. While the potential is there for everyone to see, deploying Moore in the Premier League would still be considered a bold move.
Postecoglou praised the teenager during Spurs’ tour of South Korea but made it clear there is still much room for growth. An ex-academy coach at the club has also compared Moore to Adel Taarabt, who was deemed to be one of the most talented players to emerge from the club.
But while many fans may feel apprehensive about using such a young player in the Premier League, Redknapp is much more positive. He believes that if the youngster continues to stand out for the North Londoners, Postecoglou has to show faith in him.
“The kid who played for Spain in the European Championship final (Lamine Yamal) was only 16. We’ve had Wayne Rooney and Joe Cole; they all came on the team around that age. If he’s as good as everyone thinks he is, hopefully, we will see him in the first team this year,” added Redknapp, who believes that the youngster is in the right place to grow into a superstar.
Mikey Moore has been one of Spurs’ most impressive players in the pre-season. Moore already has some experience with the first team. Last year, he became the youngest-ever player to represent the Lilywhites in Premier League history when he appeared against Manchester City.
The fans with Tottenham tickets closely follow his exceptional case and believe he will surely be the player to watch out for in this upcoming season.
Postecoglou admitted he has been impressed with the youngster this summer. His task is to ensure that the Spurs’ environment can bring out the best in him.
During a press conference, he said: “In coaching terms and working with young players, the most important thing is the environment you set up for them and what they came into.
“That means the moment they come into the dressing room, the kind of dressing room you have with the senior players and how we train and talk.
“We try to teach them as much about life as we do about football because obviously, for many of them, and you mention Mikey Moore, he’s only 16. He’s grown so much as a footballer and as a person.
“We try to provide the environment that allows him to be the best he can be, and then it’s up to the player. Once you provide that environment, it’s up to the player to keep driving and not be satisfied.”
Tottenham tickets for the season’s opening games are now available to purchase.
