Southport has been named in the 10 ‘hotspots’ in the North West to find the ‘’aggressive and destructive’ Japanese knotweed plant.

Nic Seal, chief of Environet UK, national Japanese knotweed specialists, said Bolton was the worst-affected location with 652 infestations within a 4km radius, followed by St Helens and Blackburn.

Southport was eighth on the list, with 78 infections within a 4km radius.
