Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood sinks incredible hole-in-one at Masters

9th April 2021

Southport-born Tommy Fleetwood has sunk a hole-in-one at 16th hole of the Masters to recover from a difficult opening round.

The ace is Fleetwood’s second hole-in-one in consecutive tournaments, having sunk another at last month’s WGC Match Play event in Austin Texas.

Thursday’s hole-in-one though, will stand as one of the highlights of Fleetwood’s career.

Fleetwood had a difficult start to the opening round, sitting down the leaderboard at four over par before arriving at the tee of the 16th.

After the round Fleetwood said: “It was a lovely looking shot! It was in between clubs and I was verging on a smooth eight (iron), but Finno [Ian Finnis, caddie] said a hard nine.

“It was a slight pull, it wasn’t going straight at the pin, but it was still a great shot and made a couple of bounces and in! The course is playing hard and up until that point I had zero momentum, so it was nice to do something special and get something out of the round.”
