Southport will never leave Sefton say angry OTS readers.

One letter to the editor says that nobody should worry about the town getting back to its roots as all politicians will vote it down.

One letter reads

“I am not exactly pleased at the fact that some politicians from the national parties are still trying to gain Brownie points for peddling the idea that it is at all possible for Southport to regain the status it once had when every one of the Labour, Tory and Lib- Dems voted against the idea of a referendum to apply to the Boundary Commission for ‘Southport out of Sefton’ in 2004.

Considering the strength of the Labour Party in Sefton, and now, quite unbelievably in Southport itself, everybody can be quite sure that any talk of such a thing happening in the foreseeable future is, as I know very well, a waste of breath, although such an event would be welcomed with open arms by myself and many others.”
