Three Southport Pubs have been shortlisted for CAMRA’s prestigious North Merseyside Pub of The Year award for 2019.
The current Pub of the Year, The Grasshopper at Hillside, is again included on the shortlist along with former winners The Guest House in Union Street and the Tap and Bottles in Cambridge Walk.
The Sparrowhawk gastropub on the Old Southport Road and newcomer The Beer Station micropub at Freshfield station make up the five pub shortlist.
In an email to CAMRAs 700 members in the Southport area CAMRA’s Branch Chairman Doug Macadam says that the shortlist has been compiled based on scores submitted by CAMRA members throughout the year.
The finalists will now be visited by teams of assessors who will judge each pub against the national CAMRA Pub of Year criteria.
In addition to the quality of the beer offered , the pubs will be judged on the welcome, bar service, style and decor, atmosphere, and also the contrition to the local community.
The winner is expected to be announced towards the end of February.
